Cycle North Carolina relies on contract staff to fulfill critical roles during our events. Below are contract staff positions that are available for the Coastal Ride, Mountain Ride and Mountains to Coast Ride. Positions for the Mountains to Coast Ride start at $750, plus two meals a day included. Positions for the Coastal and Mountain Rides start at $450. SAG Driver
SAG drivers provide riders with support along the event route. They are available to take riders to the next rest stop for mechanical service, to camp if they decide not to finish the day’s ride, or past difficult sections on the route. SAG drivers also provide encouragement, humor and fun to riders throughout the day.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- SAG drivers must have a valid driver’s license at the time of the event, and demonstrate excellent 15 passenger van driving skills. Parts of the route may require passing on narrow roads, mountain roads and driving among large numbers of cyclists.
- Excellent navigation skills using course markings, route cue sheets, pin drops from mapping applications, etc.
- Outgoing personalities and enjoy interacting with large groups of people during the course of their day.
- CPR, First Aid and or EMT certifications are preferred.
- Ability to communicate with a two-way radio.
- Mobile phone or device with the capability of using the Ride with GPS app is preferred.
Physical Demands
- Drivers are assigned one 15 passenger van. Drivers must be able to drive a full day shift and sit for long periods.
- Bikes are stored in the back of a 15 passenger van with the back seats removed, and drivers will be required to load and unload bikes into the van.
- This position requires being outside in all types of weather and conditions.
Typical Daily Schedule
- 6-10 hour shifts. Start and end times vary
- Pick up and return vans before and after event
- SAG drivers also help with pre- and post-event responsibilities.

Rest Stop Set Up
Individuals responsible for rest stop set up will leave each morning before the riders and set up each rest stop for the day.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Must have a valid driver’s license at the time of the event, and demonstrate excellent 15’ truck driving skills. Parts of the route may require navigating down mountain roads with a truck that is fully loaded.
- Team members should have outgoing personalities and enjoy interacting with large groups of people during the course of their day.
- Ability to communicate clearly and provide effective instructions to rest stop volunteers
- Ability to communicate with a two-way radio.
Physical Demands
- Drivers are assigned one 15’ truck (typically a rental truck from Enterprise).
- Ability to lift a minimum of 60 pounds.
- Ability to set up and take down equipment, including 10×10 tents, with extreme care.
- Ability to keep all supplies and equipment organized in a 26’ truck.
- This position requires being outside in all types of weather and conditions.
Typical Daily Schedule
- The Rest Stop Team generally begins their day between 6am-6:30am each day and finishes their shift at approximately 3pm after all rest stops are set up and the truck has been restocked if needed.
- The Rest Stop Team also helps with pre- and post-event responsibilities.

Luggage Truck Driver (Mountains to Coast)
Luggage Truck drivers transport participants luggage from campsite to campsite each day.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Must have a valid driver’s license at the time of the event, and demonstrate excellent 26’ truck driving skills. Parts of the route may require navigating down mountain roads with a truck that is fully loaded with luggage.
- Luggage Truck drivers should have outgoing personalities and enjoy interacting with large groups of people.
- CPR, First Aid and or EMT certifications are preferred.
- Ability to communicate with a two-way radio.
Physical Demands
- Drivers are assigned one 26’ truck (typically a U-Haul truck).
- Must be able to work with 1-3 additional luggage truck drivers to load and unload trucks of luggage each day.
- Must be able to lift bags that are 40+ pounds each.
- This position requires being outside in all types of weather and conditions.
Typical Daily Schedule
- Shifts begin at approximately 6am and end after the luggage is unloaded which is typically around 1pm each day.
- Pick up and return trucks before and after event
- Luggage Truck drivers also help with pre- and post-event responsibilities.

Hotel Luggage Team (Mountains to Coast)
The Hotel Luggage Team operates as a two-person team. The Hotel Luggage Team picks up and drops off luggage each day for participants that are staying in hotels, B&B’s, etc.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Must have a valid driver’s license at the time of the event, and demonstrate excellent 15’ truck driving skills. Parts of the route may require navigating down mountain roads with a truck fully loaded with luggage.
- Team members should have outgoing personalities and enjoy interacting with large groups of people and with a variety of hotel employees.
- Ability to communicate with a two-way radio.
Physical Demands
- Drivers are assigned one 15’ truck (typically a rental truck from Enterprise).
- Must be able to lift bags that are approximately 60 pounds each.
- Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to ensure that all luggage is picked up from each hotel and delivered accurately to the next hotel.
- This position requires being outside in all types of weather and conditions.
Typical Daily Schedule
- Shifts begin approximately at 8am and end after the hotel luggage is accurately unloaded which is typically around 3pm each day.
- Pick up and return trucks before and after event
- Luggage Truck drivers also help with pre- and post-event responsibilities.

Sweep Team (Mountains to Coast)
The Sweep Team is a two-person team that are the last Cycle NC representatives to leave campsites and rest stops each day. The Sweep Team ensures that each campsite and each rest stop are left in the same, or better condition, than when we arrived. The Sweep Team drives a 15’ box truck with a trailer and picks up any leftover supplies and equipment from campsites and rest stops. The Sweep Team ensures that trash and recycling are properly disposed of and that any lost and found items are returned to Rider Services. The Sweep Team also monitors and supports the last riders on the course as needed. The Sweep Team picks up all route signage (directional, safety, rest stop, etc.).

Signage Van (Mountains to Coast)
The Signage van sets up and signs the bike route for riders. Responsible for setting up various signs for route direction, rider and vehicle safety and ride information like rest stops, etc. This position may begin as early as 5am, so you should definitely be a morning person.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Must have a valid driver’s license at the time of the event.
- Ability to drive a cargo van
- Excellent navigation skills using course markings, route cue sheets, pin drops from mapping applications, etc.
Physical Demands
- This position requires you to frequently get in and out of the vehicle.
- Must be able to remove signs from the vehicle and set them up at a variety of route locations on slopes and in rough foliage.
- Must be able to place signs on posts, poles, trees, etc.
- This position requires being outside in all types of weather and conditions.
