Tournament Rules
- All games will be officiated by at least one judge.

- All divisions will compete with a 10-foot rim. Players will be required to verify goal height prior to the first shot attempt.

- The Free Throw Line (15ft) must be marked prior to the start of competition using tape, chalk, etc. Prior to the start of a match, each player will shoot from the Free Throw Line to verify that is has been marked.

- Those competing in the 4th/5th Grade and 6th/7th Grade division may use either a ball with either a 28.5" or 29.5" circumference. A 29.5" circumference is required for all other divisions with the exception of girls who may use 28.5".

- The person that will shoot first will be determined by a coin toss completed by a judge. The player on the top half of the bracket will call the coin toss.

Players have 15 seconds to complete their shot. A warning will be given the first time for a shot clock violation. A letter penalty will then be assessed for the second violation and any subsequent violation.

- No dunking or touching the backboard.

- Shots must be completed as they are “called” or explained or they count as a miss. Examples of “called” shots include:
Bank – Off the backboard and into the basket. May touch rim.
Opposite Hand – If the shooter is right-handed, the shot is attempted with the left hand and vice versa.
Jump Shot – Both feet must be off the court when the ball is released.
Set Shot – Both feet must be in contact with the court when the ball is released.
Hook Shot – Ball is released in an arch over the body.
Backwards – Your back must be facing the basket and the ball must go over your head.
Seated – Sitting on the court and shooting without elevating in any capacity.

- No shot may be attempted twice in a row from the same spot to give the opponent two consecutive letters.

- All shots attempted must be feasible for both players. For example, one player can not attempt a shot from behind the backboard if the other player is not able to do so.

- Each game has a maximum time limit of fifteen (15) minutes. The player with the most number of “H-O-R-S-E” letters at the end of fifteen minutes will be eliminated.

- Should a technology issue arise during competition, a player will have a maximum of 5 minutes to resolve the problem. If the problem is not resolved after 5 minutes, the match will be deemed a forfeit and the other player will advance in the bracket. We will do our best to create another opportunity for the forfeited player to compete again but we are not able to guarantee another match.

Tie Breakers:
     - If both players have the same number of letters, we will move to sudden death for a maximum of two minutes. The first player to earn a letter will be eliminated.
     - If sudden death reaches the maximum of two minutes, we will move to rapid fire. The player to make the most lay-ups in 30 seconds will move on to the next round.
     - If both players make the same number of lay-ups, we will move to a coin toss. The player from the bottom of the bracket will call the coin toss.

** Tournament Staff reserves the right to change the format, rules, etc. as needed. All decisions by the Tournament Staff and Judges are final.
