· To ensure that everyone is safe from contaminated coolers, please do not reach into the rest stop and campsite coolers while wearing your cycling gloves.
· Also, please be sure to wash your hands or use hand sanitizer before dipping into the soda “treasure chest” as well as the fruit and snacks.
· Here are some tips from other cyclists on how to avoid getting bit by a dog on the route:
o Yell at the dog! Yelling NO or DOWN usually works.
o Use dog repellent. Please be careful only to use on aggressive dogs.
o Spray with water. An alternative use for your water bottle.
· Apply a waterproof sunscreen on all exposed skin several times daily. It should become part of your rest-stop routine while on the ride.
· Wear padded gloves at all times. Shake out your arms and legs every couple of miles to avoid soreness.
· Drink plenty of fluids - at least one bottle per hour.
· Stretch before and after riding and take plenty of breaks during the day.
· Dress comfortably; light colors reflect heat, dark colors absorb it.
· Always cross RR tracks slowly and at a 90-degree angle. When in doubt, just get off the bike and walk across the tracks.
· Wear a light, but bright colored jacket in the rain; this will help prevent excessive loss of body heat that can result in hypothermia as well as making yourself visible to approaching motorists.
· Have your bike inspected by your local mechanic before the trip and inspect it each day. Contact your local REI Dealer or locate the closest REI at www.rei.com.
BE ALERT! We will be sharing the road with automobiles so be alert at all times. |
